- A Conner DDS-2 DAT works well with my Warp Engine SCSI and BTNtape/tar
- for software. Backup speeds are 17-25M per minute, depending on
- software. (Important note: Amiback doesn't work with this drive, or at
- least the latest version I have doesn't.)
-
- : Also, do you actually need to format DAT tapes before using them?
-
- Nope. When you use a new, completely blank tape, the first time the
- drive sees it, it will write a header block on it. This takes only a few
- seconds. After that, the tape is ready to go.
-
- DAT is expensive for the drives (usually), but cheap for tapes. I've been
- happy with this one, using it for backup of the Amiga, and
- Emplant-emulated Mac, and an MS-DOS system. If you setup tar and BTN
- correctly, they can even read each other's tapes.
